badfeetBe a blogger! You too can make up inane titles that will confuse and confound. Everyone races to see what the hell she’s talking about today!

Oh, hi there.

Just reporting briefly on the home front.

The Contrarian has met the oral surgery and he has lived to tell tales of wonder and astonishment. Actually he’s doing well, slurping down plenty of protein drinks and spacing out on percocet, which is a form of oxycodone, and sleeping sweetly.

My feet are doing vastly better. Turns out I don’t have bone spurs, but rather plantar fasciites. That is the inflammation of the tendon that runs from heel to ball and supports the arch. There is a marvelous product out there that is a heel support you put in your shoes. It almost immediately relieved the intense pain. While I still feel it, its hugely better and hopefully now healing. I’m also popping an Advil every eight hours or so.

The broken toe is more in the vicinity of “sore” rather than painful. I’m back into my tennis shoes, and have bought some hiking shoes that with the inserts should prove supportive. I still have my broken toe taped to its new best friend, the middle toe, and they are fast buds now. The bruising has spread to nearly my main man toe, but the area is barely tender at all now. I should be walking Diego by Monday or so.

Speaking of which, the poor boy is utterly freaked by the changes in his daily grind. No walks, and well the Contrarian ain’t the ball of fun he usually is–not throwin’ the ball and wrestling the boy. All of which makes him anxious, and when he is anxious he worries about I guess being abandoned. So he’s been going through a twelve-inch rawhide bone in about a day and a half, chewing himself silly. He’s a needy little guy, all the more endearing for his anxiety. I’m going to walk him a short way today and hope he doesn’t know the difference.

So. Now that you are thoroughly bored, let’s see what the cartoon world has to say today.

The gun safety “discussions” go on. NRA

With some 90+ percent of the population favoring strong background checks, one wonders how long the reactionary right can hold out with its series of lies and fear-based tropes.

The survivalists will continue to listen as Wayne La Pee Pee Pierre threatens that to give an inch will be to give up the 2nd Amendment all together, for as he warns, Sandy Hook is what the President has been waiting for to do what he has always wanted: take away your guns.

The fact that not one single piece of legislation, nor rhetoric in over four years has suggested any such thing, is well, beside the point.

To a nut case, the very failure of predictions to come true, is why you should worry. It’s just a matter of time.

And the sun will one day devour and incinerate the earth. It too is just a matter of time.

Path-to-Citizenship-PoliticsA band of Dems and GOP’er’s are trying to fashion some sort of immigration policy.

The fascinating thing is this:

When Republicans are polled, something like 64% or so favor it. When the President’s name is attached to immigration reform, (with the same general details), favor-ability falls to 31%.

Tell me once again, that GOP opposition to the President is about policy and not about race. Do tell me again.

I continue to hear the same tired arguments: our borders are porous. Well the number of persons trying to enter the southern border without benefit of papers, has fallen dramatically since 2004. More entering illegally are sent back than ever before. In some studies there is now a negative effect, with more returning to their country of origin that coming here because they can’t find work.

Is the system fool-proof? No. But it’s hardly the sieve the reactionary Right portrays either.

The-DumbphoneIt truly is impossible to gain any modicum of truth if you don’t know how to judge what you are watching and reading.

But this seems lost on those who have drunk of the kool-aid and found it “mmmm-mmmm good.” You see folks, when you have belief, and somebody out there is more than happy to tell you that you are right, you tend to be reinforced that your are right.

More so when you are told that even though you barely graduated from high school, and never liked to read, you are right anyway, well, whoa, what a rush!

Now add some “don’t listen to them other folks, they are all liars and just want to brainwash you”.

And then for good measure, use a logo “Fair and Balanced.”

Now you got ’em. And your robots will recite free of charge–

Hey you libtards, stop being sheeple and think for yourself, like we do!

That is a mind, tiny as can be, that has been trashed. I’m not sure it can be resurrected.

rubioWell, it was funny after all.

Say what you want, he was a nervous wreck.

And his message was rather pedestrian.

I mean, talk about how student loans enabled you to go to college, and then trash the idea that the government can help you succeed?

Talk about living in a working class neighborhood and then offer your house up for sale at $675,000 bucks, (with a pool)?

Claim that the “government can’t control the weather” as you answer to climate change?

And as always, may your day be brightened by a sweet face:

Don't hate me cuz I'm beautiful. . . .

Don’t hate me cuz I’m beautiful. . . .

quicksand Well intrepid readers, I’m going into the void once again. That’s me sinking into the black hole via some nice quicksand.

I go where no woman has gone before.

I blaze the trail into the unknown, risking all to discover the truth!

I am the Restaurant at the end of the Universe.

I am WOMAN.

Oh, I got a little wound up there.

The Contrarian has become a fan of all the extreme right sites. It’s his form of comedy. It tends to make me swear like a sailor. But that’s me. I take fools seriously sometimes.

But I figured since none of you has the time to waste nor the emotional fortitude to not throw your laptop across the room, I figured I would give you a run down on what the crazies are saying. I know it’s a bit like writing a newspaper when all your journalists live in the asylum, but hey, we are in that let down, pending excitement of Christmas thru New Years, so it seemed damned appropriate.

Hey did you know Chuck Colson died this year? I must have missed that. Do you always say, “dang, I didn’t know he/she died?” when they run down those lists at the end of the year?

Oh, I digressed once again.

Anyway.

In an exclusive, WorldNetDaily informs us that that dastardly Muslim/Kenyan President of ours is the one behind Sen. Daniel Inouye not getting his dying wish. You know the one. Senator Inouye asked that Rep. Colleen Hanabusa to be his replacement in the Senate after his death. He asked this of Hawaiian governor, Neil Abercrombie. Instead the governor appointed Lieutenant Governor, Brian Schatz.

According to the WND, all was going according to plan to appoint Hanabusa when Obama “decided” to take the family to Hawaii for vacation. Unlike all the other years when the Obama’s woke up in Hawaii by mistake having planned to go skiing in Vail.

The proof that Obama is responsible for the change is that Schatz “flew back” with Obama, thereby proofing quite obviously that Obama told the governor to appoint Schatz. Schatz himself confirmed Obama’s hand in the pudding, admitting that they had a “brief chat” while flying back. I mean have they no shame at all?

Now the reason you ask?  Well, Schatz was head of the DNC in Hawaii in 2008, and he declined to request proof from the Department of Health in Hawaii that indeed Barack Obama was “eligible” to run for president. Hawaii requires a certification that a candidate is eligible, and then Speaker Nancy Pelosi had submitted that. The fact that she didn’t do so for any of the other 49 states is telling. Telling what we are not sure, but it’s telling us that maybe the other 49 don’t require that. But then maybe it was the proof that WND always claimed it was. Pigs fly and wombats were found in Antarctica yesterday.

Now stop drooling and read on.

Also from WND, we learn the real truth about the war on women. It’s never been waged by the Republicans! No, it was always a Democratic plot.

The proof?

The SON of a re-elected representative beat up his girl friend.

And several Democrats have had affairs.  (Newt is not a Democrat of course, and somehow his serial adultery is not important to this proof, since we are proving that Democrats have a war against women.)

And everyone knows that Democrats are in favor of abortion for ANY reason, even when it’s for gender selection, and that means baby girls are being aborted, and if that ain’t a war against females, I don’t know what is.

Republicans are not against renewing the Violence against Women act, they just were opposed to an amendment that made it easier for women to make charges of abuse by someone trying to get a visa. The Republicans were against this, for obvious reasons, and if you can figure out the word soup on that one, more power to ya.

Oh and the kid who beat up his girlfriend? Well his dad, the Rep. Moran? He’s in favor of Sharia law and the Muslim Brotherhood, and everyone KNOWS what they think of women. The proof of Rep. Moran’s favoring these things? Oh well, he is, take my word for it.

According to the Blaze, the President was hung in effigy by a Kentucky man, who gave his mannikin, a Obama mask, and had a section of watermelon in his hands. The man claimed he was only exercising his constitutional rights of free speech. His neighbors agreed, seeing nothing untoward about the whole event.

One of the blaze commentors, explains for all of us why there is no racism here.

There is no such thing as racism anymore. White people have collectively decided to give all people of color equal rights, it’s over and it’s been over for a long time. Just like woman’s rights men have decided to more or less relent on all of it. Just like with woman’s rights we (white men) could decide to take any of those rights away. We have that power but we don’t do it because we (white men) have for the most part left sexism and racism behind. The vast majority of white men are neither racist or sexist if we were then women would be barefoot at home in the kitchen and blacks would be slaves or at least second class citizens. There would be no border problem and the welfare state would be way smaller. If white men were what liberals say we are things would be way different. This guy has no power he can’t hurt anyone. By liberals own definition if he has no power he can’t be a racist. (From GuitarCarl who may have gotten his head caught in his guitar strings)

Well, I just want to shout a big old THANK YOU WHITE DUDES.

Speaking as a woman and all.

Gosh folks, I only had time for three. Just think of all the insanity out there that is still untapped.

Illusions of Significance?

One of the side effects of being sentient or self-aware, at least at human levels, is our propensity to try to get inside the heads of other people.

We ponder why Sally did this and why Don did that. We find certain behavior curious, ridiculous, courageous, all by our own standards as we have come to believe them.

Even more curious, we tend to project intention onto objects. We kick the car, and scream at malfunctioning vacuum cleaners.

Do we create God as well? In our minds? Of course every atheist would say yes. Science gives no definitive answer, and perhaps will never have such a capacity.

Still, the mulling of such ideas is useful. Read Slate’s article and also take a gander at the book it’s based on: The Belief Instinct.

***

The Atlantic has an interesting one on “foodies”, those gourmet nuts who gush about food as if it were sex. Which it is for them no doubt. It is pure gluttony at some level. Are you the type who reads breathlessly a description of some dish? Or do you skip to the chase? Are you the type who scours the Internet looking for odd ingredients not to be found in even the most up scale Piggly Wiggly? Or do you think good old domestic cheddar is just fine? The author points out that Livy said that when we glorify the chef, we are heading for the end. What do you think?

***

Here’s one for ya. Remember Christine O’Donnell? Witchy poo? Well she’s another one that missed the trolley. Ms. abstinence is trying to keep her little political life afloat, by going after George Soros, and all the groups he funds. She’s operating out of her house, with her tiny little PAC. She’s soliciting funds–nice to pay the rent and heat as a “business expense” isn’t it. She also claims that Barack Obama considers her his biggest threat. If you want more, please go the SciFi Channel.

***

Most of the world could ignore the blatherings of Glenn Beck except for the fact that his nearly insane followers become Rottweilers with the theories he gives them. Frances Fox Pivens has been one of his targets. Based upon an article she co-wrote in 1966 about helping welfare recipients receive their due, she has been raised to the level of a founder of the marxist/socialist/destruction of America “tree” that arises out of Beckian mental illness. Vilified in the most ugly terms (I’ve read the comments) in The Blaze, and else where, Dr. Pivens has been subjected to e-mail harassment and many a death threat. She responds with some commentary on the rise of the crazies.

***

It does seem to me, in the last couple of years, that the claims of the extreme right have become more and more outlandish. Especially so of Beck and perhaps Limbaugh as well. They seem more and more emboldened to spew invective at whole groups, call the President any creature this side of Arcturus, and to generally make fun of anything non-white and educated beyond the 10th grade.

At the same time, there is a definite change in the numbers. As to Beck, his TV watchers are down 50%, and radio stations are dropping him. Limbaugh has been losing ground as has Hannity on his radio show.

How to explain? I think it’s an attempt to shore up the shrinking numbers. But the people who are leaving are precisely those who are tired of the “Muslim President” cry, and are searching for something a bit less biased. The hard core will never depart and don’t need the increasingly wacky theories. They generate enough of their own!

***

In a major “oops” House Rethugs failed to pass an extension of the Patriot Act. It seems that House Tea Partiers joined forces with House Dems to deny the leadership its  passage and leaving them somewhat embarrassed. It will undoubtedly pass under different House procedures, but still, it goes to show that the GOP has a snarly tiger by the tail.

***

One of our favorite wackadoodles is Bryan Fischer, head of the AFA. He is obsessed, as you know, with homosexuality (which explains ever so much). He has a new target: Native Americans. Incensed by the invocation,  he tells Native Peoples that it is high time they got with Christianity and gave up their filthy pagan ways. Oh Bryan, you eat, drink, and sleep hate. I bet you could collect all the people in the world that you like in your very own living room.

***

Oh, what? Oops! Doin’ a bit of the happy dance. (Whispering) they are eating their own again. Come watch! Beck looks into his crystal ball and sees that the precious Right is now agin’ the Tea Party and all of them REAL patriots. They are trying to assassinate us! “Or maybe it’s just a coincidence,” he ponders, “but I don’t believe in coincidences,” his insane brain says. “Talkin’ about freedom” he spittles, and “wildcards” who must be suppressed. Oh gosh, I should feel sympathy for one who is but a step from the rubber room, but dang if I can feel THAT emotion. Glee would be more like it.

Well, enough.

What’s on the stove? Fried chicken, mashed taters and gravy. (Which means I don’t have to do dishes!)

Tasting the Air–Blech!

We just got our lane blown out. The Contrarian got out to do a bit of shopping for me. He discovered that the alternator is bad and needs replacing. He would have done that today, but for the fact that another FREAKIN’ SET OF STORMS IS COMING!

Yep, we are expecting a few inches tonight, 1-4. But Tuesday night we are talking FEET. Everyone is being very sly about where, and who, and how much. Cowards!

So my shopping this week is off, and it will be bread and water by Thursday. Well, not quite that. More like simple meat, potatoes and frozen veggies. This winter crap is getting OLD.

***

Don’t know if you saw yesterday’s humor post. It was a lot of fun to do, and frankly I could do a blog only on The Blaze and it’s merry band of misfit dumbos. If you liked it, let me know and I’ll do it as a regular or semi-regular feature. I did that one on only the first three pages of a ten page list of comments. These people are simply mad as hatters.

***

Speaking of which, and I’m not speaking of a witch or which either, but that’s by the by, whatever by the by means. Words are strange, especially when grouped together. They have secret sex I think and become odd “sayings” that have no inherent meaning.

Be that as it may (you see my point), I was thinking the other night about “if I could. . .” Now that would make a good post don’t you think? “If I could. . .put Sarah and Michele and Christine and Sharron in a cabin in the woods for a month with lots of hidden listening devices. . .I would!” Do you have any “if I could” ‘s?

***

Political Irony has a new list of late night funnery. Do go see if you want to laugh a bit.

***

The way I see it, the reason the GOP is ultimately doomed is that it is caught in a three-way, and much as they seem fun at first, they usually prove disastrous in the long run, frankly in the shorter run. First ya got your true blue GOPers. These are the old-fashioned types, Colin Powell is an example. Believes in reasonable social legislation but conservative fiscal policy. Then there are the RINOS, sometimes more liberal, sometimes more self-serving. They can blow any number of directions depending on their philosophy, but mostly because of their desire to preserve their own power.

Then factor in the Teabuggers. These come of two flavors, both of them relatively crazy. One wing are libertarians who want to slash and burn and care zero about social welfare. The poor be damned, lower taxes and let the market govern. The other wing, mouths a lot of fiscal conservatism, doesn’t understand a bit of it, (neither does most of the other wing frankly), but they wet themselves over abortion, gay rights, and their new gods, the FF’s. All is seen through a biblical lens of their own interpretation.

How to marry these three? Beats me, and it’s apparent that the cracks already exist in the menáge e trois. A don’t see a future that can work for them.

***

Remember CPAC? That meeting which every righteous Republican, certainly every Presidential hopeful attended? Be there or be square as they say? Well, people are bailing on CPAC this year like it carries the plague. Latest to bow out is newly elected Marco Rubio. He follows DeMint, new BFF of the teabuggery clan. Most all the “good” people are now out. The GOP speaks out with clarity: WE DON’T LIKE NO GAY PEOPLE. Yes, the marginalizing party, becomes marginal.

***

The Blaze ran a piece about a California man arrested with a car full of “high-end” fireworks, making threats against Islam in the parking lot of a mosque in Dearborn, Michigan. Nothing much to report, except that the commenters query whether he is “left-wing” and whether he might have been “delivering the fireworks to Muslim extremists.” Also, much discussion on the relative minor character of the fireworks. Want to imagine what they would have said should a Muslim have been arrested in a Christian church parking lot? I leave it to your imagination. Crooks and Liars has a good story on the “left-wing aspect.”

***

I saw this over at Joe.My.God. I just had to steal it and print it here. I laughed till I nearly croaked!

***

Andrew Sullivan has a great piece you should read. I have often found myself saying that I wish the left had a “Fox” of its own. But I don’t really mean that. I mean, I want a strong independent media voice that speaks truth based on thorough and fact driven investigation. To have a Fox of our own would mean that thinking and discourse would even further deteriorate. The point is, that although I liked Keith Olbermann a lot, I was also aware of his being over-the-top and making more of a story than the facts warranted. The crazy right never seems to see that in their pundits. Not even a little.  Read Sullivan’s post, it’s a good one.
