Frida Kahlo "Sun and Life"

Oh yeah, it’s Friday.

We got a little something for everyone, or everything for someone, or nothing for nobody. Pick yer poison.

My husband, the Contrarian, had the audacity (of hope?) to move the channel indicator to #360, which in this land, is Fox country. Just in time to see Megyn (I prove that blonds are dumb) Kelly try to add up how many fingers she had on one hand.

Seriously, this peroxide-poisoned air head spends hours chasing her one brain cell around in the padded room that is called her “dressing room.”

She was alerting all of us that the President was probably a dirty sneaky bastard. She was referring to the fact that the President was phoning some Senators and urging them to vote down the amendment regarding the Keystone Pipeline.

To Megyn with the minus  range IQ, this meant that the President’s earlier statement that he was opened minded about the pipeline was pure bull. I mean he wasn’t acting very open-minded was he, calling Senators and lobbying for a no vote?

It was patiently explained to the “born that way bimbo” that the President stopped the pipeline because studies on it hadn’t been completed when he was FORCED BY THE REPUBLICANS for a decision. THE STUDIES STILL HAVEN’T BEEN COMPLETED which is why he urged a no vote because he would HAVE TO VETO IT and THE REST OF THE BILL TO WHICH IT WAS ATTACHED. So it had nothing to do with his being open-minded, the Republicans were intent on deja vu’ing the entire thing again, and he was reminding everyone he would have to issue the same denial again. This has nothing to do with his ultimate decision which is DEPENDENT ON THE OUTCOME OF THE STUDIES!

Megyn, alas cannot reason this through. It is but another examine of Republican inability to reason rationally.

¶

Once upon a time, there was a law student, president of the Law Review, named Barack Obama. He spoke in defense of a university professor, who was black and on a strike of sorts to force the University to employ more minority faculty. This was on tape, with the future President speaking extemporaneously and quite eloquently. At the end, he introduced the professor, embraced him in a hug, and that was that.

This tape had been in the possession of PBS for years, and had been aired some four years ago as I guess part of a montage on the early life of the President.

Enter Andrew Breitbart, or exit as the case may be.

Mr. Breitbart has been teasing Fox with the notion that he had dynamite footage of Obama that would blow the 2012 election into a fireball of controversy. He promised to give it up to the Pointy-finger man with IQ 3 painted on his forehead, Sean Hannity. Breitbart dies, apparently of natural causes.

But wait. Not so fast.

Conspiracy theorists leap forward to query–might the blessed Breitbart have been murdered in order to prevent the dissemination of this damning video?

And Fox had it.

We waited.

We saw.

We yawned.

But wait, Sean pleaded. Don’t you see?

He has his hands mysteriously in his pockets (I swear . . .Blaze nuts discussed this at length. . . the sinisterness of which escapes me, only to devolve into the child-like sexual giggling that is what these people do best).

He was “pallin’ around with radicals”. The professor in question Derrick Bell, was a proponent of a theory called “critical race theory”. Now Fox pundits are unable to understand this term, but they infer that it has to do with whitey is bad, always has been, always will be.

All of this adds up, the in logic meets fantasy land of Fox, that the President has a long and evil history of race hatred and class warfare.

If you care to understand the basics of Critical Race theory, go here and here. Don’t bother with Wikipedia. The right and left are adding and subtracting to it as fast as you can hit enter, trying to make it mean what they want.

Never was a video so tortured to construct a scenario that  is somehow evil.

And once again, we learn what reasoning amounts to in Republican land. Oh, and at least temporarily, to pursue the terrorist president angle, Republicans agreed to ignore their other issues: that the President really didn’t go to Harvard, and can’t speak without a teleprompter. (remember, it’s a file cabinet, not a computer up there)

¶

Poor old Rush. He meant to cause a kerfuffle and help Republicans. He ended up doing the opposite, and worse, he ended up helping the cause of contraception. What could be a better downer to sex than this? (courtesy of Juanita Jean!)

¶

It’s comforting to know that both Sarah Palin and Alan West stand ready to come to the aid of their country if asked. I know I sleep better knowing that.

¶

Arizona, that bastion of freedom, is pushing around a bill that would absolve doctors from suit, should they “forget” or not bother to inform potential mothers of prenatal birth defects. This is order to stop frivolous law suits. Or is this in order to allow Christianist doctors to deny information to women that might be used to determine if an abortion is in order? Who in the hell wants a doctor who decides what type of information you should get?

¶

I feel so much safer knowing that I only have to open up the bible to know all I need to know about climate change. So says that titan of intellect, James Inhofe, Senator (seriously he is one) from Oklahoma. Well Oklahoma, yeah, I guess that explains it. Seriously. Does he have a caretaker?

Ladies and Gentlemen, we have now returned to earth orbit. Kindly belt up for landing. We hope you have enjoyed your tour with Neutron Star lines. Our Motto:YOUR’RE ONLY AS CRAZY AS YOU THINK YOU ARE

Yep, I have chosen Oklahoma as the state which had the most idiotic voter choice of the entire nation! I am stumped as to what the trophy should be. . .nothing too erudite, since the locals wouldn’t understand. After all, they are D U M B.

Didn’t hear? Okay. Well the fine folk of the Sooner state decided to do its bit to fight terrorism. It placed on the ballot a bill that would prevent a judge in Okie from using Sharia law as the basis for deciding a case.

Yeah. I know, Al Qaeda is shaking in its boots and we are all certainly a good deal safer for them having the backbone to stand up tall and face the possible fatwa that might follow. ‘

It seems that they went a tad far, also barring any judge from using any “international law” as well. Newt, their trusted guide in this matter apparently approved. The amendment to the Okie Constitution passed with a lovely 70?% of the electorate, numbering nearly 700,000 folks. I bet you had no idea there were that many morons in Oklahoma huh?

Since the Ten Commandments come from another nation, legal experts now wonder whether the so-called Judeo-Christian principles are now unconstitutional in Oklahoma. Also, the majority of American jurisprudence, which is admittedly based on English Common Law.

Apparently there are no lawyers in the state of Oklahoma, who could step forward and explain these simple facts to the flatlanders of the plains. Stay tuned for further updates and Okies require homing devices to find their way home from work.

It has become apparent to me from this mid-term election, that some woefully nutzo stuff is going on in Merika. So it has fallen to me to begin a new series called, “What IS Going on in (state).” With people moving all over the place, I figure you need to know what you may be getting into. So I’m gonna give you the low-down skinny on our fifty fine family abodes. I hope by the end, to have offended everyone, so stay tuned!

***

I didn’t expect the fun to start so soon. Referring to the Teabuggers and their new “heft” in Congress. It seems they are feeling their oats as they say, and making them demands upon the party regulars. They are demanding things, and not acting at all like the neophytes they truly are. Even the Turtle has been forced to say “whoa there Nellie” to the uppity youngsters representing the oh-so-stupid old white men’s anger club.

***

We’re happy to report that Keith Olbermann is returning on Tuesday night according to the Salon. There are lots of rumors about why Keith was treated differently than Joe Scarborough who did the same thing. There are issues about the Comcast takeover, the new CEO and net neutrality wafting around the Internet tubes. Not sure how it all plays out. Ezra Klein gives his opinion here.

***

I guess I’ve vacillated between appreciating and admiring Obama’s “civilized” behavior with the opposition. But frankly, I’m inclined to “call a spade a spade”. I suppose that is no shock is it? I am continually tired of so many of our leaders being “politically correct” and side-stepping the truth. So I was might glad to hear Michael Bloomberg say this:

“If you look at the U.S., you look at who we are electing to Congress, to the Senate, they can’t read,” he told the newspaper while in Hong Kong attending a summit.

“I’ll bet you a bunch of these people don’t have passports. We’re about to start a trade war with China if we’re not careful here — only because nobody knows where China is.”

You can appreciate how angry the far right it. They put it all down to elitism of course, but Bloomberg has said the truth. These folks are simplistic and have little or no understanding of political realities. They will be giving the GOP fits, that we can be sure of.

Funniest tweet I saw yesterday, was Sarah (there are corpses more intelligent than her) Palin promising to give her opinion on Bernanke’s decision to buy up 600 billion in long-term treasury securities. She inferred that it was printing money out of thin air. Yes folks, and tomorrow I’ll give you a run down on the intricacies of high-particle physics  at the Hadron facility as regards the Boson particle. If you don’t believe me, here’s the tweet:

Will discuss Fed's quantitative easing plan(print $ out of thin air)tmrrw@ tools trade assn speech;then edit addl "Sarah Palin's AK"episodes

Two things I’m getting really upset about. One is that there is a strong likelihood that Obama is gonna cave on letting the Bush tax cuts expire for the rich. Every poll I’ve seen suggests that the voters are in favor of this, so I have no clue why he is doing it. But I’m thinking he is gonna do it.

Second, there is increasing rumor that DADT is going to be cut from the appropriations bill. We understand that Levin and John (No Honor Here) McCain are working to do just that. Utterly disgusting if it happens. It’s insane because even polled Republicans come out in favor of killing DADT.

Oh, a post at Walking in the Shadows is available for your perusal. And we will be bringing you a first installment in our new series: “What IS going on in (state). Stay tuned.

Short Takes on the Day, 06/30/09

sarah-palinYou know you wanna. I mean, it’s been too long without the Sarah fix hasn’t it? And who better to dish the dirt than Vanity Fair‘s own Todd S. Purdum.

Nobody does it better and just everybody reads Vanity’s exposes’ of the celebrity best.

This one is actually very good. You’ll get lots of real insight into the queen of the North, who still refuses to waste time learning anything, figuring that her base would only get confused I guess if she actually knew anything.

In any event, a few of the staffers finally open up and tell all about the moose hunter from Alaska. The picture remains not pretty. She is distrustful and pays little attention to the experts around her, preferring to rely almost exclusively on the “first dude” for advice. There is but one motivating force, and that is pure, unadulterated, blatant blind ambition. That is what drives this little engine.

Why she continues to be upheld by so many in the Republican hierarchy is, well, but another question in the great book of questions as to why the Rethugs are hell-bent on self destruction. Enjoy the rather lengthy, but fascinating read.

Micro cosmos. This just in from Fermi Lab. A new sub-atomic particle has been observed. “Observed” may be too strong a word. Forget using the kid’s play microscope for this folks.

Named Omega -sub-b-Baryon, its composed of three quarks, two strange ones and a bottom. Not strange as in “weird” but strange as in physics strange which probably includes almost everything. Ever check out “string theory?” The bottom quark doesn’t refer to any sexual proclivity I don’t think, but don’t quote me.

This kind of thing makes physicists all giddy and ready to pee their pants, but I don’t know as it will have much impact on the average person.

It remains a good jaw dropping remark to make at the next cocktail party you attend.

***

SALLY-KERN-largeOkay, you need to sit down for this. If you see this woman, call for the straight jacket people. Seriously. And Oklahoma is under quarantine until her capture.

Seriously, damnit, I really mean this. This is the photo you will find in all future editions of the Oxford Dictionary under the word CRAZY.

Said, state legislator, has introduced a resolution in the state of OK(we are a bunch of lunatics)lahoma, claiming that the reason for the the economic downturn is the prevalence of general “debauchery” throughout the American culture, and the failure of our President to follow the moral precepts laid down by our rich Christian heritage, as interpreted by said genius Sally Kern.

Need we add that Ms. Kern is a Republican? She gives their crazy Senator Inhofe a run for his money. Move over Minnesota and Michele Bachmann, there’s a new sheriff of wingnuttery in town.

You must read this resolution. It’s hysterical. (Oh, and just in case you forgot, if I don’t name a crazy person for the week, by default it goes to your choice of Glenn Beck, the aforementioned Michele Bachman, Sean Hannity, Bill O’Reilly, Karl Rove, Ann Coulter, Newt Gingrich, Rush Limbaugh, Dick (the Dick) Cheney, —well you can go on forever can’t ya?)

***

apostrophes_3885You could have knocked me over with a bunch of feather’s, or fruit’s, or even baseball’s, but I had no idea that there were folks in this world who were troubled by apostrophes’s.

Indeed there are. And some people call my blog trivial! Well I can show you trivial sister!

Travel to Apostrophe Abuse, and you can see how some people react to the misplacement’s of a few highly placed commas!

If you’re one of those folks who can’t sleep at night for worrying about whether your last e-mail contained an unwanted and unneeded squiggle. If you can’t bear to stray more than three feet from your Strunk & White’s Elements of Style. If you are simply apostrophophobic, then by all means, sneak over and get your fix. I’ll not breath a word, I promise’s.

***

RushI’ve been wondering what common denominator exists in all the right wing nuttery from the GOP side of things. You know, food, drink? I thought maybe bibles, the KJV specifically, but then I figured, heck it doesn’t seem like they ever read that much.

So, I’m stymied on that. But another fine piece of illogic emanates from none other than our dear old friend, Rush (DB to his friends)Limbaugh.

Seems he’s figured out what caused poor Governor Mark Sanford to go off the deep end and off to Argentina to woo a certain senorita.

It was, hold on to your hats friends, Barack Obama!

Yes indeed, the President himself. You see, Sanford, so distraught over having the fine people of South Carolina override his veto, and having to accept that stimulus package, found it all was just too much. He lost his mind, you see. Couldn’t cope, with the about to ensue communist takeover by the federal government.

Had to run away from all the red scare Stalinistic tricks, into the arms of a lady who represents, apparently, some form of democratic perfection. Well, it’s A theory I guess.

I think Rushie forgot that the affair has been ongoing just a tad longer than Obama has been President. But heck, why should facts get in the way of a good smear?
