She’s Baaaaaaccckkkk! Indeed, caught in a time warp, the Goodie two-shoes Sherry has been stifled, and Evil Snark, arguably the “real” thing is back!

Know ya been missin’ all the satirical madness that we so like to shovel to ya!

Okay, it was MINUS eighteen freakin’ degrees this morning and I’m grouchy.

I been a preparing for this event for a week, and though we survived it with no frosted fingers or nose, and the water still running, I’m tired of carrying a week’s worth of clothes on my back all day. It’s leftovers today, and I’m not lifting much more than a finger ’bout anything else.

I’ve spent some free time on The Blaze. It is a right-wing rag, supposedly tied to Beck, but I’ve not seen a word uttered by him there. The articles, if you can call them that, are trite, uninformative, selective in their reporting, and otherwise dull. But the comments, oh the comments are just precious. That is, if you are looking to see what the lowest 1% of the IQ in America is thinking. Again if you can call it thinking.

I learned something about the black experience. After Jesse Jackson spoke about the dream of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was still in part unfulfilled, I learned that I had it all wrong about MLK. It turns out he was not against the Vietnam war, not in favor of a redistribution of wealth in America, and a whole lot of other progressive things. No. I learned the extreme RIGHT wonkettes “revere” the man because:

MLK was for EQUAL justice – not social justice!

and this:

Jessie Jackson hijacked the dream, kidnapped the dream, raped and murdered and buried the Dream in an unmarked grave decades ago. It’s people like Glenn Beck and the Tea Party that are resurrecting the dream. Jesse,  pucker up and kiss ass you race baiting freedom hater.

and this:

The National African-American Communist Party (NAACP) – is more of the problem than solution for the 13% black community. They just perpetuate the woo is me mentality and tell the blacks that in fact they ares second class citizens and deserve the white handouts! – They should be thankful there was slavery and their ancestors were brought to America. Anytime they want to go back to their heritage country we will donate the travel expense.

And let’s not leave out the history lesson:

If it was not for the Founding of the United States of the Americas slavery would still be the labor of choice in whatever Empire would have come to power in today’s world.

What I have concluded, is that MLK was a wonderful person, but Jesse Jackson, the NAACP, and all African-Americans who don’t “know their place” are vile awful creatures. That doesn’t make these Right-wingers racists. Naw, they just are tellin’ it like it is.

My favorite comment so far is this one, from the never-ending defense of sista Sarah:

Palin is like the statue of liberty with a torch that will absorb all the evils of the progressive left – and stands taller for it.

Ah, yes, I can see it in my mind. Can’t you? The little granny glasses perched upon the statutes nose? A rifle slung across her back? The book binding with the words: Dominationist Christianity: NOW.  Who wouldn’t love that!

***

And then there is Michele Bachmann, claiming that, not to worry. Repeal of the Health Care Act won’t mean anything bad for those with pre-existing conditions. Why no, the “free market place” has handled it in the past, and will in the future, just fine. Yes, we know how they did it in the past. We can imagine how they will in the future, crazy woman. (Crazy eyes trails Obama in Iowa in straw polling by 18 big ones, in case you were concerned.)

***

Don’t forget that Michelle Obama is in the news again. The Crazies are pointing out that she is responsible for the slight uptick in pedestrians getting hit by cars. All that crap about eating better and getting more exercise has got people walking, and thus wandering into cars all over America. Lord, can’t that woman concentrate on flower arrangements or something?

***

Don’t know if ya heard. But Joey (I’m pissed) Lieberman had a debate with Arianna Huffington on Morning Joe the other day. Topic: WMD’s in Iraq. Lieberman continued to suggest that there was “good reason” to believe they were there. He cited the Duelfer report as support. When Huffington called him out on it and said that it did not support his contention, Lieberman shot back: “I don’t think you’ve read it, sweetheart.”  Okay Joe, another good reason why saying goodbye is such a good feeling for us all.

***

Political Irony has a nice list of  political jokes. They are worth linking up, but this one was reported everywhere, and is classic:

“I want you teabaggers out there to understand one thing: while you idolize the Founding Fathers and dress up like them, and smell like them, I think it’s pretty clear that the Founding Fathers would have hated your guts. And what’s more, you would’ve hated them. They were everything you despise. They studied science, read Plato, hung out in Paris, and thought the Bible was mostly bullsh*t.” – Bill Maher

***

Rush Limbaugh appears to be winning the race between Beck, Palin and himself, to of utter insignificance in the world. Even the right (you are sitting down I hope?) is critical of the tubbo’s recent mockery of the Chinese President, Hu. Mo has the story and links.

***

Okay, enough for today. I feel much better. See ya tomorrow if we don’t get frozen into icicles or ‘sumpin’.

Well, it remains true, truth as they say, is stranger than fiction, and Merika is just the gol durned funniest place! I kid you not, and other such terms. Oh boy have we got the dishiest stuff today!

I guess one must conclude that the religious right is just the location where we can find the closeted gay community these days. There seems a never-ending list of homophobic bible thumping “ministers” all doin’ the nasty behind not so closed doors.

Anyway, one George Alan Rekers, co-founder with our good homophobe Lou Dobson, of the Family Research Council, was caught with his baggage hanging out in a Miami airport.

Seems Mr. Rekers, or Pastor Rekers, I should say, was accompanied by a lad hired from Rentboy.com a rather salacious site, noted for pairing youngish “men” with, well who ever is willing to pay. Said “Lucian” accompanied said minister through a two-week vacation in Europe.

Now, Mr. Rekers denies any hanky panky, in mock shock we are told, declaring that although he did hire the boy from Rentboy, he had no idea that it was THAT kind of site. (Odd since the description of said lad was to say the least, rather descriptive of his, err,  nether parts.)

In any case, Mr. Rekers, swears to God, that said Lucian was only there to “carry his baggage” made difficult for Mr. Rekers to do since a surgery hampered his ability in that way. Which all led to this lovely quip over at Unreasonable Faith:

He needed help “lifting his luggage,” if you know what I mean. It replaces “hiking the Appalachian Trail” and “wide stance” as the newest euphemism created by a sex scandal.

I mean, it’s a wacky world out there folks. I can imagine the activity going on at the FRC. Oh to be a fly on the wall!

***

There was a reversal of poles the other day. Don’t know if you noticed or not, but it sure happened. This is near enough to make one’s head implode, and dear, wouldn’t that be messy?

Speaking of gays in the closet–Lindsey Graham (no we did not say that!)  and his stooge friends Johnny and Joey, are at it again, pretending to be grownups and messin’ around in adult conversation.

Johnny and Joey have been arguing that, why heck, American citizens, if suspected of terrorist behavior should be denied their rights. Yep, you heard that right–they should not be Mirandized, but should be turned over the military immediately, for, shall we say, more “serious” interrogation?

Now, we know why Johnny is spouting like a horses ass, since of course his precious door label of S E N A T O R is in jeopardy, but Joey? Have we forgotten the life and times of average Jews in Berlin in the 30’s and 40’s? HUH?  And, well, Lindsey, I guess we KNOW what your issue is, we just don’t know which one of them is your man–unless both.

The cold day in hell when something Glenn Beck said would be sane? Well, it’s that day folks. He DISAGREED with said three simpletons.

***

Well, didn’t ya just know this would happen. The nutso Rethugs have NO idea where the idea came about that THEY were associated with such a blatantly wrong-headed chant of drill baby drill. Nope, no idea. Um…maybe some candidate or other, some minor local election might have used it, but nope, nope, not a REPUBLICAN phrase, of that you can be sure.

Was bound to happen ya know. Short memories, or more likely short minds. But happily, the good editors of the HuffPo, do recall, and do have the footage and do have the transcripts. Ain’t modern technology just grand?

It might just be that the Rethugs won’t find all that mid term election business quite as a much a walk in the park as they had assumed. And worse, we hear tell that the Prez is interested in pushing immigration reform THIS year, and that can hardly make any Rethug begging for a Latino bump feel very happy.

***

Michael Brown oozed out from under his rock to attempt to resurrect himself (meaning he has a book he is trying to sell). While out, he tried to put off his general irrelevance to anything in the world by ‘splainin’ to us that he has the real lowdown on the gulf catastrophe.

According to Brownie, who knows all about bein’ a douche, the president deliberately waited to step in on the tragedy of the oil spill. As the waste product sees it,

“this is an opportunity for a president who wants to bankrupt the coal industry, and basically get rid of the oil and gas industry, to shut down offshore drilling.”
Now, get back under that rock Brownie.
***
And now to prove that garbage pickers can find a jewel at times:
The Los Suns did a great thing the other night. It may seem like a small thing, but it was, trust me, great. They gave us reason to hope that this country is not basically too far down the rat hole to retrieve. Read it and be proud.
***
Some days, well, this is how you feel, and it’s okay.  With a H/T to Elizabeth at Telling Secrets:

. . . . I am hellishly angry; I think so-and-so is a swine; I am tortured by worry about this or that; I am pretty certain that I have missed my chances in life; this or that has left me feeling terribly depressed. But nonetheless here I am like this, feeling both bloody and bloody-minded, and I am going to stay here for ten minutes. You are most unlikely to give me anything. I know that. But I am going to stay here for ten minutes nonetheless. Amen.
Harry Williams.

And that’s how it is today. Have a good one.

The Thin Line of Reality

"V", Connecticut, George Clooney, Joe Lieberman, Science Fiction, The men who stare at Goats, TV

LiebermanI mean, really. Joe does sort of make one feel that the world is upside down. Was it only less than a decade ago that we welcomed him as the Democratic candidate for VP? How can this be?

Either this man has turned as about faced as any one could, or we were duped badly. And that may well be the case, since one must allow that a few folks were duped into actually thinking Dubya had a brain, and we know he was the tin man. Or was that a heart? I can’t remember which.

Joe, clearly a person who thinks of himself as the patriarchal leader of his Connecticut flock rather than the spokesman for said flock, has claimed he will “not allow a public option health care reform bill on the floor of the Senate.” Goodness and mercy me, when did Joe become so powerful? He and he alone controls this power?

Doubly hard since Jon Stewart parodies him so well in that stuffed nose doggy style, making Joey sound like a pathetic minion more akin to the bumbling sidekick to any comedy team you can think of. Who the freakin’ f**k does this buffoon think he is after all? Hate monger and war touter who seems unconcerned with killing folks (long as he is safely at home), has the unmitigated gall to act in direct opposition to the majority of his constituency in making this claim that he will deride any health care bill that doesn’t pass Lieberman cheese muster. A pox on his house!

tmwsag_160xOkay, that seems to lead inexorably to this next story. Namely that there is a new movie out called as you may have guessed, “The Men who Stare at Goats. ” Note first that it says MEN who stare at goats. Women are just way smarter than men it seems.

Okay, so I figured, George Clooney, sexy George, oh yeah, I can watch this. Somehow it will be good. He’s a fine comedic type after all beyond his allure. Yeah, I can do this. Although how they can make anything rational out of such a concept would be hard. Hard. Right.

IT’S BASED ON A FREAKIN TRUE STORY! I know, I know, but now you see why it said “men” and not women. Some freakin’ brain dead military types actually smelled a bit too much of the gun powder and came up with this idea that you can and should try to think a goat to death. I have no idea why they picked goats. I have no idea why anyone with what appeared to be a loaded brain case would ever in their wildest imaginations consider this possible.

I live in a crazy country, and perhaps in a crazy world. That is my only explanation. This means that it really is true, that with God all things are indeed possible. Man has concluded that everything under the sun, moon, stars, nebula, black holes, quasars, pulsars, dark matter, can and might be true or can happen. End of story.

star-trek-enterpriseCome here. Just a little closer. . . . Can we talk? Me and you, Mr. TV producer type? We need to get something straight here.

I’m all aware of how you guys like to be lazy. I mean genre, genre right? A few ago it was reality shows, and now we are all pitching our sorta abnormal, sciencey fiction type stuff? Right? I get that.

But, it is unfair, not copacetic, not within the rules to start ’em and then leave us hangin’, twisting in the wind as it were. Ya just can’t cancel shows without resolving them!

You create these mysteries and then, slam bam, you’re onto something new, and all the while I’m still left in the Everglades with some kinda pods that are erupting there. And there was another thing about some kinda monster along the west coast, swimming around. Never resolved that one either. You claim you will with LOST. Not sure what your intentions are regarding HEROES, but it’s seeming rather disjointed these days. You just kinda slobbered all over GALACTICA didn’t ya?

Time to shape up. And hey, while you are at it, lets put just a tad more thought into all this. You resurrected “V“. Now I understand that that was an old series (my point actually is that you’re being rather lazy doncha think?), and so it’s been clearly established that the Visitors are bad guys. So this just becomes another Law and Order in the old west, individual style? Not exactly inventive would you say?

Why are all aliens out and about to do us in? I mean isn’t this a rather old and pedantic and WORN OUT mantra? How’s about a thoughtful drama about what it means to really try to work with another civilization which is vastly superior? The frustrations and amusements of trying to have meaningful exchanges between what must be akin to chimps and humans? I mean that could cause some real interest couldn’t it? Rather than the old cowboys and Indians type sludge?

Inquiring minds want to know. I’m not holding out a lot of hope for “V” frankly. I mean they wasted zero time in making them enemies. So now its just a lot of spy infiltration, shooting, and killing, and the ending each week is 7 down, and 3,423,756 to go. Not very appealing.

Just sayin’.

I keep toying with the idea of doing a “How McCain lost” post. And yet I think it’s too near in time to events to be quite ready. In the meantime MYDD has an excellent synopsis of the Palin factor that is worth looking at. It wraps up the choice quite well in my opinion. Take a look and judge for yourself.

Don’t miss the dressing down that Michelle Malkin gives her fellow Rethugs over their nasty drubbing of all things Palin. I mean poor Sarah, who had so much integrity! So much character! Yes, lying is a virtue Michelle and mean spirited race baiting is a clear sign of a good person. It’s fun reading from none other than that flag ship of truth and justice the National Review. Don’t miss the laugh.

Professor at Harvard, Orlando Patterson, in the NYTimes, offers an analysis of Obama’s climb to the Presidency. He places it in the prospective of history, our constitutional mandate, and the rise of minorities. It’s good reading. He cautions that Mr. Obama is not necessarily the Second coming, but a direct result of several earlier events.

Attackerman has a great post on the Neo-Cons and their search for a new “host.” Randy Schuenemann lost his job as chief of McCain’s national security team a week before the election. That they managed to keep this from leaking is a tribute, since they kept very little else inside the campaign. Schuenemann had the gall to choose Palin over McCain and was leaking to the Weekly Standard apparently. It’s all juicy, and does suggest that that the Neo-Cons are ready to descend upon the unknowing Ms. Palin and attempt to use her as they used Dubya to do their bidding. It does require a dim wit and Sarah would appear to fit that bill rather well. American Street has a similar post here.

Mona at The Art of the Possible, talks about the neo-con phenom and how the Republicans cannot get foreign policy right until they purge themselves of the likes of Kristol and Barnes and others of that Foxy ilk. Her analysis relies on Brad R. from Sadly No. You should check out the link and read it. It’s serious and well done.

Joe Lieberman met with Harry Reid yesterday. I’m told that Reid offered Lieberman a sub committee chairmanship and loss of his present Homeland Security Committee chairmanship. He would be allowed to continue caucusing with the Dems. Lieberman turned that down we understand. According to The Washington Independent, word still is that Reid at leans leans to stripping him from his chairmanship. I think it should be done. Endorsing McCain on security issues is one thing. Campaigning, giving an address at the RNC convention, and speaking in favor of Palin and helping to fuel the fires of Obama’s “socialist, Muslim” connections is quite another. Lieberman went way to far and the Dems need to cut him loose.

Episcopal Cafe has a good report on the Catholic vote this year. Roman Catholics for the most part did not buy into the “non-negotiables” of abortion and gay marriage as calling for a McCain vote. They voted their economic interests pretty much as everyone else did. Similarly, there is a nice post by Bishop Gene Robinson on his meeting with Obama.

This seemed quite appropriate:

Downward facing dog?

Downward facing dog?

Hey, its November with Thanksgiving on the way. And so you have all the excuses in the world to make something utterly yummy and caloric. Try Chocolate Cinnamon Cream Pie! Oh, doesn’t it sound good? Check out the recipe at Epicurious.

And that about does it for today! Enjoy!

Short Takes on the Day 10/23/08

The Salon posts a fascinating interview with Stephen King on the 30th anniversary of his major book, “The Stand.” King speaks about the apocalyptic book as it relates to the real world scenario before us today. Having read the book many years ago, I found it one of King’s better writes. Sadly, few of his books translate well to the big screen, and “The Stand” was no exception. However his thoughts on it’s message and how it dovetails with the woes of today is quite interesting. Stop by if you have the time.

Glenn Greenwald has a very good piece on Joe Lieberman. While the Congressional leaders such as Harry Reid seem reluctant to punish Joe for his outrageous behavior in trying to smear Obama, many of the left are adamant that he be removed from chairmanships and the Democratic caucus. Greenwald paints a sad picture of the cowardly behavior of the Democratic leadership in the face of Lieberman’s extreme tactics. Lieberman has not just campaign FOR McCain, he has gone out of his way to paint Obama as dangerous and no friend of Israel. I think that deserves ostracism from the Democratic power grid myself.

There is an extraordinarily good article at The Daily Beast today. You should definitely read it. It is about James Dobson and his long and intense battle to keep Colin Powell a cypher in the Republican party. This is just fascinating reading and gives you a glimpse of how the inner workings of the party are shifting. There is a war going on between the wingnut religious right and the mainstream conservative that is compelling. This war, and who wins it will have much to say about the next Republican candidate and the future of the party. I never thought I would root for a winner, but putting “country first,” I feel I must in this case. This piece delves deeply into the dark world of Dobson and his ties to the usual suspects. It’s chilling readers.

To those who thought that lately Palin has sounded a bit better answering questions? Oh, well, you were WRONG. She’s just as stupid and baffling as always. Staying with the Dobson theme, Ms. Palin recently gave an “interview” with the dark Dr. Dobson. If you recall, the Republican platform is the most right wing it has ever been, at least since Barry Goldwater. Sarah, poor dear was asked her opinion on the efficacy of said document. She seems to understand that it is composed of “planks” and little else. Read it and weep or laugh, as the case may be.

Nobody would argue that the Republicans have pulled out all the stops in the last few weeks and days to divide this country in ways that shock even the well seasoned politico. There is no odious charge too vile to throw at Senator Obama in the hopes that fear and hatred will trump common sense and reasoned thought. Rusel DeMaria has a smart idea for the Obama administration. Keep that election ground game up and running, and turn it into a public forum of education and inclusion. Let’s see what we can do to repair the damage fostered by the angry, sore losing right. See what you think.

Iraq, Joe Lieberman, John McCain, Surge

It’s bad enough that John McCain hasn’t got a clue about who the enemy is in the Middle East region. He has falsely gone on and on about Iraq and the surge for months now. It’s hard to understand whether he is so befuddled as to not really understand or is simply engaging in the usual Rovian tactic of obfuscate, lie, and mislead at every turn.

Now it seems he has his lapdog Joey Lieberman trying to return us to the days of pre-Iraq invasion. Joe has introduced a silly resolution with Lindsey Graham that “recognizes the surge’s strategic success in the central front on the war on terror.” Lieberman, also having caught Alzheimer’s from McBush, went on to say:

“That’s why Senator Graham and I are introducing a resolution recognizing the strategic success that the surge has achieved in a central front — the central front of the war on terror against the enemies who attacked America on 9/11/01, and expressing our thanks to our troops who’ve made that success possible. “

Yep, you heard that right. Poor Joe still thinks that Iraq had something to do with 9/11. Of course, in that he joins a mediocre but stubborn percentage of Americans who have yet to have seen the literal truckload of facts to the contrary.

He is to be congratulated for his attempts to continue to pull the wool over the eyes of the American public. Such pandering to stupidity is indeed sad. Some might, in a time of such urgency around the world to engage in real issues, even call it criminal to actively lie about what we must assume he knows to be the truth.

The surge in effect has delayed the deployment of additional troops in Afghanistan where they are sorely needed. The Taliban and al-Qaeda continue to grow in strength there again, and everyone seems in agreement that more troops are needed. They were needed a year ago. But of course, we were too stubbornly on the course of never admitting a mistake to send them.

There is some hope that Lieberman will lose his chairmanships this upcoming January. Those he presently holds will expire then, and one can but pray that Harry Reid and other Democrats will see fit to give them to one of their own party and not continue to support a man whose first allegiance is to Israel. Lieberman needs to switch parties and be at least honest with his own Connecticut constituents. He is no more a Democrat than than any Dixiecrat ever was.

All of this is done, no doubt, in some lame attempt to shore up McCain. The truth of it is that the claim by Joey and Lindsey and George that the surge is a success, is more a vote for the timetable than if it were a failure. The fact that they cannot see this is all the more shocking. Fair warning, physical nearness to John seems to put one at risk of developing the same stupid and illogical thinking as John himself. It’s too late for Joey, but there may be others who can benefit from knowing.

What Was I Thinking?

10 Thursday Jul 2008

Democrats, Election 2008, GOP, Joe Lieberman

Okay, I confess.  I was duped. I was not paying attention.  Back in 2000, I thought the choice of Joey Lieberman by Gore to be brilliant. I thought Joe did a fine job. I was obviously not a political junkie as I am now. Bush is the cause of that. The Contrarian however, has always been a political junkie. He actually watches congressional hearings regularly, not just when something out of the ordinary is being done. And he never warned me.

This raises the question of whether all this weirdness on the part of Joe was available to be known or if he has had a mini stroke that has completely changed him into the idiot he has become. Read Wingnut of the first order.

Joseph A. Palermo runs down the list of Liberman’s turn abouts, and his joined at the hip status with John McCain. In fact, one almost expects at any moment a pic with the three of them, McCain, Bush and Lieberman all engaged in a mass of masturbatory heaven hugging the daylights out of each other. Lieberman has, in my not so humble opinion, decided that America is but the bully brother of Israel, there to do it’s bidding, and that falls in line with the war mongering of Mr. McBush and his master Mr. Bush for real.

The fact is that Mr. Joey has become not just a believer in Johnny Mac, but a not-quite card carrying apologizer for the Republicoots. He is falling into the funny zone of Zell Miller, that hysterical nut case that nobody pays a lick of attention to. Joe is headed that way, and one wonders what the poor people of Connecticut must be thinking these days. I lived in Connecticut for two blissful years and I know them to be thoughtful, intelligent beings. This must come as a major shock to them all.

I first heard about the “Get Joe off the Dem’s Leadership wagon” some weeks ago, and thought well, its probably a good thing, but well, he must be doing something worthwhile for Dem’s still. After reading Palermo’s post I am not so sure. Worse yet, I’ve watched as Joe can’t even find the integrity to back away from the total nut Hagee and his CUFI group who supports Israel only because they think Israel has to be in play for Armageddon to begin. (After which most of the Jews will be killed for not being Jesus believers of course.) Joe might of course argue that Hagee is useful regardless since he supports the war mongering against other Middle Eastern states, but come on, is there such a thing as morality? Do we function on the basis of the enemy of my enemy is my friend?

This starts to smack of the nauseating history of this country in supporting acknowledged violent dictatorships, always turning a blind eye, and often actively assisting them as they massacred their populations and stole from the treasury, all in the name of “fighting communism.” If Joe is justifying his support of Hagee and his willingness to appear at CUFI functions on this basis, he is on increasingly thin ice morally and as we have sadly learned logically. There is a reason the US has become hated in so many “third-world” countries you know. This is one of the reasons. The people of those countries are very much aware of American involvement in their torturous past even if most of it has been hidden from the American public.

No, I’d had quite enough of Lieberman. I agree with Palermo, it’s time to go sign the petition and hope the Democratic leadership will turn the traitor out on his ear. He can go and join the McCain camp, formally I’m sure. Since he walks and talks like a GOP stooge, it’s only fair he carry the label. Read the post by Palermo and see for yourself. I’m not making it up. And then drop by the site http://LiebermanMustGo.com. You’re country will thank you.
