I have nothing new to add to all the countless reports and analysis given by so many. I am shocked, sickened, and deeply grieved, for all who were personally touched by this senseless tragedy.
I worked out most of it in a post at Walking in the Shadows. Although couched in “religious” language, I think the thoughts are universal to the human condition. Read it if you care to.

Baptist Church plan on picketing at the victims funerals….. hoping to incite more violence, I’m sure….

Yeah I read about Westboro too. Gosh where does all the hate come from in this country? Compared to most, we live pretty decent lives, yet we are swimming in a cesspool of such hate that it is really scary. Has been I guess.
Oh , here in Iowa, as of Jan 1, anyone licensed to have a gun, can carry it openly anywhere. Nice huh?
there is too much acceptable hate in this country, too much hate passed as entertainment
there are too many guns in this country – the NRA stops every single piece of legislation – no matter how reasonable – before it goes anywhere
there is too little treatment of the mentally ill – there are people who still believe it is a made up illness

I do agree DC. I’ve been upset about the outrageous simulated violence in entertainment, which I think simply desensitizes us. We are never willing to pay the price to address the causes of things, we only slap bandaids on the wounds and wait for the next triage to come along. It’s suicidal, but I guess that’s who we are at this point.
Free spech has consequences, the Sheriff said. While an emotional man with personal ties to the Congresswomen, he’s right. The shock jocks, the bloggrers, the snarky comments…us…dial them down and maybe the truly unbalanced will not be triggered into action.
It seems a reasonable conclusion doesn’t it? And even if not true, what is so bad about some common decency returning to our discourse?

Glenn Beck typically lied 2 days before the Assination attempt that ‘The Liberals are threatening (planning) the violent overthrow of the government……We don’t have George Washington to help us.’ Fox/Glenn have been ‘preaching’ Violence against Musdlims since 9/11. The Very Source of ‘preaching violence’ against ‘liberals/marxists/socialists’ EWtc, Etc. Has been the Fox Network and Limboo. Limboo said it’s Ok to kill marxists/liberals’, etc.
