Oh goodness, you do love me! With apologies to Sally Fields I am pleased to announce (drum roll) that I have become the recipient of two wonderful awards! I am properly humble a you have always known me to be (wink), truly I am. Seriously though, I am honored to receive these from a couple of delightful women, both of whom I treasure for their blogging expertise and their friendship.
Appropriately, the first is from Ruth at Ruth’s Visions and Revisions. Most of you go there and know what I am talking about when I say that Ruth is truly a gifted writer and good friend. More than once she has taken the time to e-mail me and offer her advice and help. This award is for blogging friends, and I truly count her as one:
It has been one of my delights as a blogger to develop over time, some real friendships with fellow bloggers. Sometimes it involves going beyond the comment issue on each other’s blogs. But it is not always essential that e-mailing be part of the package. There are people you just bond with, because you discover that your brains work alike. The comments you leave one another are more than the usual, but actually convey real empathy and understanding. They are often full of advice which is appreciated both for it’s own wisdom but also for the caring they illustrate.
We don’t always realize that people interact on the computer for myriad reasons, not the least of which is a need to reach out to people who think like we do. We all need a certain amount of validation and support in life. While we have flesh and blood family and friends to take care of most of that, sometimes it is not enough. Sometimes those that surround us can’t meet the needs we have in the special niches of our minds. Blogging buddies, because of our connection around some issue or other, often fit the bill. It pleases me no end to present this award to a number of folks who have been just what the doctor ordered at various times in my blogging life. They are:
Chani Jeannelle Dave Jennifer Jaliya Border Explorer TerryAll of the above have had just the right thing to say, at just the right moment. There are more. In fact, I could easily double the number. But alas one must end the list somewhere! Most of you already know of these fine bloggers and visit them yourselves. I salute them all as great blogging friends!
This second award comes from Liberality. A librarian by profession, she knows books! While I can’t say that I read as vociferously as she does, I have in my life gone on serious binges of reading, at one point I think, reading nine books in three days.
I have not often thought about sexy and bookworm and thought of them in the same sentence I can assure you, yet I am glad to announce that the time has come to think of them together. Gone are the days of women hiding their brilliancy while they nodded adoringly at some intellectual dolt of a man!
I was raised in that world, and am happy to see it gone. Today I see men, real men, I might add, looking for the woman with a brain. It’s rather boring after a bit to sit in the same room night after night with a puffed up doll who can’t hold a semi-intelligent conversation with you. Men like women with brains, and women like men with brains as well. It’s time we honored them all!
Tell me the man who doesn’t gasp in orgasmic pleasure at the women who can recite the Obama health agenda, all the while grading philosophy papers for her college seniors. You betcha! That is such a turn on. Just ask any man! I get the vapors when men start to espound on the dark matter in the universe. Lordy, it nearly makes me faint with excitement. It’s a race then as to who gets to the bedroom first, and clothes, why, careful of buttons and snaps, ripping sounds can be heard across the neighborhood in the summer. I kid you not, bookworms are just that sexy!
There are two prime candidates here, both of which I know richly deserve this award.
Jan–Jan reads a lot, and always keeps us up on what she is reading. Moreover, she often gives us little bits of wisdom gleaned from those books, enticing us further to buy a copy and get to reading!
Randal–Randal is a deep reader, and most especially, I knew he would love the award to place on his site, since he looks for literally any excuse to include a scantily clad woman on his blog. Now you got a legitimate reason Randal, go to it.
Ruth–Simply because Ruth reads a lot, and like Jan keeps us advised on what’s good and what’s not so good. Her reviews are grand and really tempt me to head off to Amazon with another order.
These three, and they are not exhaustive, have a great sense of what is worth reading in the vast universe of publishing. One of the saddest days in my life occurred quite young. I realized that no matter how diligent I was, I could never ever begin to read all that was worthwhile and published each year. Not all that was published mind you, but all that was published AND worth reading.
So again, thanks for the awards to the givers! and congratulations to the recipients. A big wet kiss and huggy!
