The bible is a curious document. Some, for fairly self-serving reasons, suggest that it must be read with childlike wonder, allowing the Spirit to guide understanding. While this is certainly part of the process, there is no need to deny our rational mind when doing so.
Many suggest that treating the bible as an ancient document [...]

The trouble with saints, is that, well, they are just so darn saintly. Not exactly people that regular folks like myself can hope to emulate. I’m told actually, and I can confirm it based on some of my readings, that most if not all saints were actually not quite as saintly as we might think.
I [...]

I love going to church every Sunday. I seem to always find peace and a certain enlightenment there week to week. I deeply appreciate the congregation I am a part of. So many dedicated and hard working people.
I admit I am blessed to be in it. And yesterday’s liturgy had powerful teaching for us all.

It seems to me, that if you are going to call someone a “hater of God’s word” then you have some obligation to know a tiny bit of what you propose to talk about.

In reading a homiletical treatment of Job, I discovered something [...]

If you are a Christian, you already know this. We are a bunch of rather schizophrenic folk. Yes admit it, we are. The chart at the right only barely glosses over the real tragedy locked within the pretty bands of green and blue.
We can’t agree on what we believe. Never have really, though at times, [...]

I find irony delicious. When an idea comes together around a bible story, an atheist blog post and a scientific idea, you know you are in a rarefied realm and God is whispering in your ear. Write, he says. And so I am.
In preparing for our lectionary discussion tomorrow at church, I was confronted with [...]
