A Rolling Stone Gathers Whatever Is In Its Way

boehner-orangeSir Boehner of Orange is not a man who is cozy with the truth. He, like so many of his cohorts, believe it is a most malleable thing to be twisted and pulled into whatever shape is necessary to feed the agenda they are pushing at any given time.

As most of us know, the sequester is looming on the horizon, and the GOP chatter seems as usual to ignore facts and create a new reality as needed. Thus the sequester is the “president’s idea” as if he designed it as the solution to our fiscal ills.

The Grand Bargain that Boehner continues to claim fell through because the President “changed” the offer at the last minute, is a total lie. In fact Boehner made the deal only to discover that he could not control the crazy element in his own caucus. Because of the Hastert Rule (thou shalt not bring to the floor a bill not already approved by a majority of your party), Boehner knew the deal could only pass with Democratic help. That he was not prepared to do, so he created the myth that the President changed the offer.

Given that time was short and the GOP was threatening to destroy the economy unless they got their way, the President proposed a draconian alternative that would come into play in six months. This was supposed to ensure that a meaningful debate and agreement would ensue to avoid the awfulness of the sequester. The President originally offered a 50/50 deal–there would be a sequester that consisted of half tax increases and half budget cuts. Boehner refused that deal and insisted that all be cuts.

Moreover, at the conclusion of the sequester deal, Boehner bragged to the press and anyone else that would listen that he had gotten “98% of everything he had been asking for” so he declared himself and his Party the winner.

Those are the real facts.

What the GOP continues to miss here, is that we are not so gullible nor so stupid that we don’t know these facts. So, his little attempt to hijack the truth in favor of his new reality only elicits nods and uhuh’s from his own stupid base. The rest of America sees it for the series of lies it is, and of course, realizes that the GOP is still the party that protects corporate interests to the detriment of the rest of us.

No lessons yet learned. The GOP continues to wallow in the mire of lies. It will remain a party that can’t win the big one. It will continue to try to figure out ways to steal elections. It will continue to be the best comedy routine in town.

You have heard no doubt that the President is heading to Israel? And when he is there, he’s going to get a Presidential Medal of Distinction. And the Right wing reactionaries are livid. They just cannot understand why the vast majority of us cannot see that this man is a horrid, vile, Commie, Islamic lovin’ Israel hater. I mean they cannot fathom this as it is SO obvious that he has a “visceral hostility toward Israel.”

Their answer is of course that the person giving him the medal, Israeli President Shimon Peres, is just a figurehead, who is not liked by most of the population.

It makes me laugh. And then I read their shock and dismay again, and I laugh a bit louder and longer.

The circus continues.

I do so appreciate a Republican who wants to help the poor. Jeff Sessions is ready to do just that. His method? Cut welfare of course. I mean really, it just breeds dependency doesn’t it? At least that’s what Newt said back in the 90′s when he pushed through the welfare reforms that resulted in tens of thousands losing their benefits. (hint: you might find some of these folks among the homeless today.)

Anyway, Sessions is bristling at the idea that the GOP is being called the party of the rich. And in a memorandum, he made it clear that they shouldn’t tie this deep desire to help out our poor by tying it to deficit reduction–that looks bad. Instead cuts in food stamps and such should be tied to helping business get healthy so those jobs become available. As everyone knows giving stuff to the poor just breeds more grabby people. Everyone knows that.

Boy, I feel ever so much better knowing the GOP really has a heart.

If you have been wondering why the price of gas has gone up sharply, well, yes you guessed it, you can blame the neo-cons. They pushed sanctions against Iranian oil, making Europe and others refuse to buy any. The neo-cons were sure of course (they always are) that this would not impact American prices.

They were also sure that Saudi Arabia would pick up the slack. (That now seems unlikely).

West Texas oil is selling at $100 a barrel, which is not good either.

All this causes prices to rise (and Iran gets the benefit of that for what oil it does sell).

Thank your nearest Republican today!

I Need Two More Feet!

brokentoeWandering into the kitchen in the middle of the night for a glass of water, my toe met its Waterloo. No I didn’t trip up to Iowa, rather my toe met the corner of the wastebasket container, and my toe lost the battle. At first I figured it for merely another stubbing with searing pain for about two minutes, and then chalk it up as another of those miserable toe meets _________stories.

Twas not to be. As I turned from the sink, and began to walk, a tingling was felt that was definitely harbinger of much worse to come. I sat upon the sofa and manipulated the fourth digit and heard/felt a distinctive popping, which suggested that all was not kosher.

I moaned and hobbled off to  bed, where I moaned again. The Contrarian sat up.

“I broke my toe,” I groaned.

“Where?” he asked.

“On the way into the kitchen,” I quivered.

“On the wastepaper container?”, the specifics somehow of great importance here.

I squelched the question, “are you going out there and beat it up?” and merely said, “yes.”

He got up. I tried to get as comfy as possible. A few minutes later, I heard him coming into the room.

“Still awake?” he whispered.

“Yes.”

He turned on the light, and stood there with an ice pack. He got one of the decorative bed pillows and laid it in place with the ice, and fixed my foot upon said pillow. “The internet said to keep it elevated and iced to prevent swelling.” he advised as he climbed back into bed.

“Thank you dear, it’s really not hurting.”

Which would all not be so terrible were it not for the fact that the other foot sports something we have called a stone bruise, which has lasted for about three weeks on my heel. I have tried to ignore it and “walk it off” but it hovers between getting much better, and then being horribly painful and hobbling. That leaves me with no good feet.

With flip-flops, and my toe taped in friendly buddy camaraderie with the bigger middle toe, there is just enough padding to my bruised heel foot to get around. Oh and with a healthy dose of some prescription ibuprofen given to me by the dentist to assuage sore gums from my teeth cleaning last week.

Diego, I might add, is bummed.

Meanwhile. . . . .

Drone-WarfareThis kinda sums up my concerns about drones.

Whether for surveillance or for attack, they pose a serious intrusion on our lives. Nobody thinks it wrong that they are snooping at the border, because we don’t want “them” coming across.

Probably few in America would object if they patrolled in high drug trafficking areas within some of our cities, because we want “them” stopped.

How many other areas are we prepared to accept drones as a part of modern law enforcement?

How many are prepared to have them used in a more aggressive form?

There is an old Star Trek wherein constant war between two planets resulted in an agreement that each side could “score” computer attacks, and “casualties” would be generated. People would then march dutifully to disintegration chambers. Thus each country could preserve its infrastructure and life could go on. This had gone on for five hundred years.

Proof that what we get too far from, we find more palatable. Making war nice and easy and unmessy, has unintended consequences.

President-Skeet-Shooter It was predictable.

We knew they would.

They can’t help it.

They hate with a viciousness and wild fresh-meat smell that is scary, funny, and as I said, oh so predictable.

They claimed we would never see a picture because he never had shot skeet, or as one Blazey Boob put it, “I have shot lots of skeets and he ain’t shooting any skeets that I ever seen.” Yes skeets indeed.

When they produced the picture, if was of course, doctored, like his birth certificate, his college transcripts, his law license, and well, his “I’m a human being” card.

He kills over three thousand Muslims with drones, and is called a card-carrying member of the Muslim Brotherhood, intend on bringing Sharia law to Merika.

Go figure. They are nuts. It shows.

Anchors-AweighOn the other hand, watching the GOP engage in a mmmm, Tea People taste good, feeding frenzy is most entertaining.

I mean you go to bed at night a card-carrying conservative Republican, and wake up the next morning an RINO, to be heaped on the pile of derision by the reactionary right-wing. NOT CRAZY ENOUGH ARE YOU screams Yoda.

Some don’t think the Tea Bibbers have the stomach for a long fight against rational Repubs who just want to win a damn election. Some don’t think they have the numbers or will to start their own third party and linger in the basement with Ralph and the other groups that vie for a place on the ballot. HERE WE ARE ↓ IN THE BASEMENT. I think remnants of the old Communist Party still dust off the buttons every four years and give it go for the Bolshevik cause.

Rush and the folks at Foxy Noise are in a tither, not knowing what to do, while Karl insists that if you will just give him more money, he will use it and WIN this time. He promises. Rush has made a living off of cheating and double-dealing all his miserable life. He’s so very prepared to continue.

Meanwhile the Tea bibbers no longer have a clue what they were about in the beginning. It had something to do about banks they think, though what it was, nobody recalls. They look down and find a KJV bible in one hand and an AK-a5 in the other, and look longingly at the Bud on the table. I may not have two good feet at the moment, but they need another hand immediately. The Bud eases the cognitive dissonance of what is in their hands.

Maher-TroubleDonald is suing.

You see, Bill said that he was the spawn of his mother having sex with an orangutan.

Donald whipped out his birth certificate to prove him wrong.

Bill, smilingly suggests that old Hair-do misses the point.

Donald wants Bill to donate some money to charity.

Bill smiles.

Donald sues.

Donald has nothing to do.

All those Apprentices run his business.

He can’t spend all day trying on toupees.

He can’t spend all day looking up all the words that people call him, that would take forever. And besides, things like Asshat aren’t even in the dictionary yet. But the word has been submitted to the Oxford English Dictionary committee with his picture.

Have a glorious day, and don’t stub your toe. Because I will laugh if you do. Really i will. Misery loves company.

And You Thought Things Would Be Different?

inaugeraladdressOne of the best things of a second term, is that the President is no longer looking over his shoulder to a second term, and tempering his remarks accordingly. That this is so, is perhaps a fact of life that is regrettable, but it would be a lie to suggest that first-term presidents don’t.

That said, there is much disagreement depending on whose ox is being gored. From the left, and I think fairly from the middle one hears that the Inaugural speech was masterful, and depending on his success, it may go down as one of the best given. Mr. Obama painted a picture that surely speaks to the heart of most of us. We have problems, indeed we do, but the solutions should never be placed upon the backs of any one segment of the population. The poor, the old, and the suffering should not bear the burden of our answers to grave problems, at least no more so than those who shoulders are sturdier, broader, and relatively unburdened.

For many of us, the President’s call for real efforts to help cure our environmental ills comes woefully late, but still is welcomed. The naysayers, propped up by the coal and oil industry “think tanks”, will squawk that this is all a hoax, and the Christianists will point to self-servingly-interpreted vague pieces of scripture and suggest that it would be an affront to God to presume to be causally involved in the destruction of our planet, but the evidence is strong and uniformly speaks with one voice–humans have seriously compromised the health of this planet.

On the Right, of course one hears the laments of the loser–”I heard no statement of wanting to reach across the aisle,” whines Senator John McCain. One might respond, “well Senator, tell us once in the last four years when you have done one thing other than complain that WHATEVER was contemplated by the Administration was wrong.” Yes do tell us Senator.

The Right found themselves shut out and they are pouting. Well, they have shut themselves out and it is clear that whatever is done at this point will be done by revising the filibuster rules so that a majority can once again actually pass legislation in the Senate. It will be done if at all, by the House, if Representative Boehner has the moral fortitude to begin bringing legislation to the floor absent the Hastert Rule, an arbitrary rule which says, “thou shalt not bring before the chamber a bill for which you don’t have a majority approval of your own caucus.” In other words, we will pass no legislation with bipartisan support, but only if we, the majority agree as a majority.

Beyond this, the President will have to come to us, the public and impress upon us the need to push our own representatives in government, to get off pot and actually govern as we elected them to. That is what the Address suggested to me at least.

No minds were changed I would hazard a guess.

Mitch McConnell, cries tears, lamenting, “the age of liberalism” has returned.

Well, yes, damn it it has. We, the left are unabashed in our efforts to bring liberalism back. We glory in the liberalism of Abraham Lincoln who had that liberal idea way back when that no country could continue to exist while enslaving a portion of its people. We glory in the liberalism of Theodore Roosevelt who curbed the power of big corporations by breaking them up. We glory in the liberalism of Franklin Roosevelt who ended a depression by putting people back to work improving our infrastructure and instituting social security so that people had the piece of mind of knowing their last years were not going to be spent in grinding poverty.

We glory in the liberalism of Lyndon Johnson who finished the work started by Abraham Lincoln, giving all citizens the same ACTUAL rights previously entombed only on paper in some states.

We glory in the liberalism of Barack Obama who began what for many of us was a long quest to secure access to medical care as a basic HUMAN right, not a privilege for only those who could pay the price of ever greedy medical conglomerates and doctors.

We await the big issue of immigration where we seek to invite our Latino brothers and sisters to join us in citizenship. We await the full rights of our gay and lesbian brothers and sisters coming to be across the land. We await fair wages for all. We await fair wages for women doing the same work as their male counterparts.

Yes, we are unabashed in our liberalism.

But has anything changed for the extremists and those who kneel before them? No I suspect nothing at all. If the following is any example, the Right will continue to fawn and bow before the tiny but vocal hysteria that is the howling extremism of nuttery:

Mitch McConnell sent out this frightening e-mail to his supporters near or on Inauguration day:

My friend, our freedom is under direct assault.

From those who want take your guns. From those who want to shred our Constitution, and as our good in friend Rand Paul from Kentucky says, from those who want to be King.

Let me tell you, Mitch McConnell is ready to lead the fight to protect your rights.

Nobody’s freedom is under assault Mr. McConnell, and to continue this sort of sordid partisanship is beneath the office you hold. Nobody is shredding the Constitution, and given your utter disdain for the President, if there was one single piece of information that he was, you would be moving heaven and earth to encourage a House vote of impeachment. No one is trying to take anyone’s guns Mr. McConnell, only perhaps trying to remove from the public domain weapons that have no legitimate purpose other than to kill as many PEOPLE as possible, as quickly as possible. Nobody is trying to be a King, and I would suggest that you might read up on your British history since you and Mr. Paul might be a bit limited in your understanding of  what a monarchy is. Perhaps you might read Plato and get a firmer grasp of the various sorts of governments. Just a thought.

So, no nothing is changing. Because stupid men continue to act stupidly and in their own singular interests rather than for the common good.

The Legacy of Race

mlk-prayingIt is a stunning bit of serendipity that the President’s second Inaugural falls on this day we celebrate as Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. It gives me pause to reflect upon the legacy of Dr. King, and how far we have traveled, and how far, sadly we still have to go.

Because our President is African-American, it is almost inevitable that the rabid minority who detest him with a fervor that reaches to at or near real hatred, are quick to point out (almost always unasked of course) that they are not racists. But they also go further, attempting in some drug-induced phantasmagoria to capture Dr. King as their own. They quote with self-satisfaction two facts: one, that Dr. King was after all, one of them, a Republican, and second they quote from his “I Have a Dream” speech, that they “judge a person by the content of their character and not by the color of their skin.”

To them, this settles the question. If anyone pursues the issue further, they are “race baiting” or “playing the race card”, trying to blame their circumstances not on their own limitations, but rather on a non-existent barrier that prevents them from reaching their goal.

Race still matters in America. No matter how politically correct we are, or how politically correct we witness others being, the ugly face of racism seethes just below the surface. My own father, a man as racist as any could be, became politically correct, dropping the “N” word from his speech, but he could snarl out the word “black” with the same venomous disgust as the other word. There was no mistaking his true views.

History is the long and tragic story of the fact that privileged groups seldom give up their privileges voluntarily. Individuals may see the moral light and voluntarily give up their unjust posture; but as Reinhold Niebuhr has reminded us, groups are more immoral than individuals. (MLK Letter from Birmingham Jail)

Race matters when those on the extreme Right refuse to legitimize the present office holder of the Presidency. Race matters when posters are painted of the Commander-in-Chief as a African Voodoo artist. Race matters when the emphasis is placed on Mr. Obama’s middle name. Race matters when the only African-Americans deemed acceptable are those who uphold the views of the Right that “everyone” now has an equal chance. Race matters when the majority of black Americans are “victims” of the Plantation Democrats, unable apparently to think for themselves, but need the Right to explain to them that “handouts” aren’t real progress.

When Planned Parenthood is attacked as a genocide upon the black race, rather than what it is, an organization that provides the only health care available to millions of women of color and otherwise, race matters.

Race matters when undocumented workers who pay taxes, and work for low wages doing the jobs that most white folks won’t do, raising their families to be hardworking, and law-abiding citizens, are called “Illegals”. When we seek to strip citizenship from their children because they are “anchor babies”, racism is dripping from our lips.

Race matters when our sisters living within the reservations still can be assaulted by non-Native men and get no justice.

Race matters in this country and we refuse to see it and deny it at our peril. For racial hatred is deadly, it eats at the fabric of society and destroys it from within. It keeps us from embracing each other with full acceptance, but mires us in the mud of distrust and suspicion.

We are not a society that is free of racism, any more than we are free of sexism, any more than we are free of our own versions of what is moral and what is not. We are not tolerant about many things, and there are those who say that to be tolerant is  to be accepting of that which we know to be wrong merely to get along. That is not true. To be tolerant is to recognize that we, each of us, do not have a corner on morality. Our version is not THE version necessarily. Being tolerant is being open to the possibility that there are other ways, ways better than ours. For the religious, it means we are open to the work of the Spirit to enlarge our world and to our understanding of Right.

Martin Luther King Jr., was not a Republican because he believed in the tenets of the Republican party, surely not as it exists today. He is not yours, Tea party adherents. He was a Republican because that was his only choice given the Dixiecrat Democrats, who were thoroughly opposed to civil rights for black people.

Martin Luther King Jr., was not in favor of simply having an even playing field, which you Tea party adherents claim. Such doesn’t exist in the first place. And secondly Dr. King spoke often about the inequality of wealth in this country and its dangers. In fact he wondered whether capitalism was a viable economic model if it resulted in such inequality and poverty at the bottom of the pyramid of society.

Martin Luther King Jr., died while engaged in support of sanitation workers in Memphis. He supported unions and knew that they were the only viable means of securing fair wages and safe working conditions for all workers.

Look within yourselves. We must each look within ourselves. Racism is insidious. Find it. Eradicate it.

All the Wacky News You Might Have Missed

quicksand Well intrepid readers, I’m going into the void once again. That’s me sinking into the black hole via some nice quicksand.

I go where no woman has gone before.

I blaze the trail into the unknown, risking all to discover the truth!

I am the Restaurant at the end of the Universe.

I am WOMAN.

Oh, I got a little wound up there.

The Contrarian has become a fan of all the extreme right sites. It’s his form of comedy. It tends to make me swear like a sailor. But that’s me. I take fools seriously sometimes.

But I figured since none of you has the time to waste nor the emotional fortitude to not throw your laptop across the room, I figured I would give you a run down on what the crazies are saying. I know it’s a bit like writing a newspaper when all your journalists live in the asylum, but hey, we are in that let down, pending excitement of Christmas thru New Years, so it seemed damned appropriate.

Hey did you know Chuck Colson died this year? I must have missed that. Do you always say, “dang, I didn’t know he/she died?” when they run down those lists at the end of the year?

Oh, I digressed once again.

Anyway.

In an exclusive, WorldNetDaily informs us that that dastardly Muslim/Kenyan President of ours is the one behind Sen. Daniel Inouye not getting his dying wish. You know the one. Senator Inouye asked that Rep. Colleen Hanabusa to be his replacement in the Senate after his death. He asked this of Hawaiian governor, Neil Abercrombie. Instead the governor appointed Lieutenant Governor, Brian Schatz.

According to the WND, all was going according to plan to appoint Hanabusa when Obama “decided” to take the family to Hawaii for vacation. Unlike all the other years when the Obama’s woke up in Hawaii by mistake having planned to go skiing in Vail.

The proof that Obama is responsible for the change is that Schatz “flew back” with Obama, thereby proofing quite obviously that Obama told the governor to appoint Schatz. Schatz himself confirmed Obama’s hand in the pudding, admitting that they had a “brief chat” while flying back. I mean have they no shame at all?

Now the reason you ask?  Well, Schatz was head of the DNC in Hawaii in 2008, and he declined to request proof from the Department of Health in Hawaii that indeed Barack Obama was “eligible” to run for president. Hawaii requires a certification that a candidate is eligible, and then Speaker Nancy Pelosi had submitted that. The fact that she didn’t do so for any of the other 49 states is telling. Telling what we are not sure, but it’s telling us that maybe the other 49 don’t require that. But then maybe it was the proof that WND always claimed it was. Pigs fly and wombats were found in Antarctica yesterday.

Now stop drooling and read on.

Also from WND, we learn the real truth about the war on women. It’s never been waged by the Republicans! No, it was always a Democratic plot.

The proof?

The SON of a re-elected representative beat up his girl friend.

And several Democrats have had affairs.  (Newt is not a Democrat of course, and somehow his serial adultery is not important to this proof, since we are proving that Democrats have a war against women.)

And everyone knows that Democrats are in favor of abortion for ANY reason, even when it’s for gender selection, and that means baby girls are being aborted, and if that ain’t a war against females, I don’t know what is.

Republicans are not against renewing the Violence against Women act, they just were opposed to an amendment that made it easier for women to make charges of abuse by someone trying to get a visa. The Republicans were against this, for obvious reasons, and if you can figure out the word soup on that one, more power to ya.

Oh and the kid who beat up his girlfriend? Well his dad, the Rep. Moran? He’s in favor of Sharia law and the Muslim Brotherhood, and everyone KNOWS what they think of women. The proof of Rep. Moran’s favoring these things? Oh well, he is, take my word for it.

According to the Blaze, the President was hung in effigy by a Kentucky man, who gave his mannikin, a Obama mask, and had a section of watermelon in his hands. The man claimed he was only exercising his constitutional rights of free speech. His neighbors agreed, seeing nothing untoward about the whole event.

One of the blaze commentors, explains for all of us why there is no racism here.

There is no such thing as racism anymore. White people have collectively decided to give all people of color equal rights, it’s over and it’s been over for a long time. Just like woman’s rights men have decided to more or less relent on all of it. Just like with woman’s rights we (white men) could decide to take any of those rights away. We have that power but we don’t do it because we (white men) have for the most part left sexism and racism behind. The vast majority of white men are neither racist or sexist if we were then women would be barefoot at home in the kitchen and blacks would be slaves or at least second class citizens. There would be no border problem and the welfare state would be way smaller. If white men were what liberals say we are things would be way different. This guy has no power he can’t hurt anyone. By liberals own definition if he has no power he can’t be a racist. (From GuitarCarl who may have gotten his head caught in his guitar strings)

Well, I just want to shout a big old THANK YOU WHITE DUDES.

Speaking as a woman and all.

Gosh folks, I only had time for three. Just think of all the insanity out there that is still untapped.

Wing-ed Nuttery Expands the Stratosphere

The uh, polls are ticking up nicely for the President. The RNC and the Willard team of dupids tell us not to dismay. It’s not a concern. Willard will just keep endorsing the likes of Steven King and clasping the back of Pat Robertson, and promising not to take “In God We Trust” off our coins, and all will be well.

He will not wipe out Obamacare (we embrace the term now), he’ll keep the good part. Forget that the good parts are paid by the mandate requirement. Willard knows that such facts just get in the way and it sounds ever so much better without truth. And in the end of course, since he won’t save the good parts anyway, no matter.

Suddenly, there are not gonna be any tax cuts for the rich. Willard had the hundred-dollar bills removed from his ears and heard that. Any “appearance” of tax cuts will be eaten up by closing the deduction loopholes. Which ones? Oh, trust me, Willard says, I’ll tell you AFTER you elect me. You are gonna elect me no?

See the way I sees it, Mr. Willard is gonna lose (Pelezzzzz God). And the finger pointin’ will commence. And Willard will blame Ryan and the Tea People, and the (doncha think the Tea people remind you of sea horses? I do, so keep that image in mind). As I was saying, the Tea People will blame  Willard for not being authentically enough CON-SERVA-TIVE. Now the rank and file, of which there is very little rank or file left, will scratch their armpits and be faced with the dilemma of the century–SHOULD WE CUT BAIT? Meaning shall we removing the icky chum from ourselves otherwise known as the Tea People.

Otherwise, it seems to me, the GOP may want to rename itself to  AWK which stands for Angry White Knownothings.

Meanwhile, back on the plantation, Alan West, who is really white with a very thin veneer of black which he has to touch up CONSTANTLY, opened one of his orifices and proved but again that he has nothing but cat’s eyes marbles floating around in his head. (Shake him, really, you can hear the rattle).

So he says that the President’s campaign slogan, FORWARD is actually some commie thing, because it “sounds” like something Marxist-socialist to him. But then he hears bats in his own belfry, so I’m not sure that we should attach too much importance to that.

Now Alan, I do beg you, in honor of your name, go WEST young man, and don’t stop until you are about 4 miles off the coast of California, breath deeply and go swim with the fishes, Sea horses if possible. (And before one of your bright lights tells me that they are not actually called Sea Horses any more, save it. I know that, have no clue what they are called now, and don’t care to look it up!)

Another AWK is the wonderfully stupid and thoroughly disgusting Joe Walsh, the dead-beat dad running for re-election in Illinois. I’m told it’s not at all likely that well will have old Joe to kick around much longer, so we must grab our stupid fix while we can.

Joe did not like it much that Sandra Fluke spoke at the DNC. He’s of the Limpaw persuasion that she’s a lazy slut. She is supposed to quit law school and get a  job according to Joe. He thinks we are raising children who feel entitled to government help. But then Joe doesn’t take care of his own kids much. I guess he thinks its pretty okay if his ex-wife does whatever she needs to to meet their needs. It’s certainly not his job.

Joe will be getting his own “JOB” come November when the seven people who support his candidacy are over whelmed by several tens of thousands from his district who are ready to shovel the shit out the door.

I do keep up on the news on Sunday, I just don’t write about it. I ran across a couple of thing you might find either useful or informative. One is by one of the best, Juan Cole at Informed Comment. Do go and read his letter to Mitt: You Don’t get to Say That.

If you are into charts (and frankly I think they make a lot really clear really fast, Little Green Footballs really shows you just how not-socialist President Obama really is. Spending is down, the growth of Government is down. (If you didn’t see the smack down on Rand Paul by Paul Krugman do please follow this link. Paul actually thought the government was expanding which suggests that those GOPers who don’t lie, are spectacularly uninformed.)

Oh and Nate Silver has Obama having an 80% chance of re-election now. These numbers probably won’t hold, but they are certainly good news and have the Willard Team on the defense.

What is gonna be fun now is watching all the excuses for losing. One such dope is a blogger by the name of John Hinderaker, who laments that we are at a tipping point with nearly 50% of the people now receiving some form of government assistance, so it’s natural they will vote their personal interests “rather than the good of the economy.” Sour grapes huh John?

On a personal note: our little guy is at the shelter today getting his manly parts whacked off so he cannot do the nasty with any of the girls in the neighborhood. He took it like a man, walking stoically to his impending OPERATION. We are waiting for the call later this afternoon to go pick him up and shower him with lots of neutery type gifts. I already ripped all the nuts off his boy toys.

Whee, Change Comes Roaring

Last night the thunder and lightning rolled in and it rained most of the night. At 4 a.m., Diego nuzzled me awake to go out, and noticing that it was still showering at least, I realized that our walk today was caput.

The Contrarian woke when a wet Diego jumped full-tilt into the bed and wiggled his happiness. After removing said dog from my now wet side of the bed, I told him (the Contrarian that is) not to waken me at 5:45 for my walk. “No walking today,” I mumbled, “It’s raining. Maybe I can take him later for a walk around the neighborhood.”

Well, it’s still going at a slow but steady pace now at 9 a.m. This is wonderful since we so need the rain, and a fun day for me. A load of laundry is now in the dryer, and I’ve cooked up the ingredients for a new Southwestern adapted salad to go with steaks today, called I think Foothills Salad. Roasted red potatoes, bacon, corn, chiles, and a nice spicy dressing. While I compose this, I listen to the second half hour of Chris Hayes, “UP“. It’s all good.

Well, now after two conventions, let the games begin:

Now people have different opinions about the President’s speech. Mindful that the jobs report was not good, I think he set the right tone myself.

And certainly it got bigger and bolder and more exhilarating as it built to the end.

At the close of the day, one can say that the DNC put on a well-planned show that seemed to state their position quite well, while the RNC was negative and devoid of much energy and peppered with forgettable speeches for the most part except for the Eastwood debacle.

The debates should be something else I’m guessing.

Speaking of which, I think that the Dems pretty much laid to rest that silly question.

Of course we are better off. We aren’t all picking garbage from the dump for dinner tonight.

Stephen Colbert had perhaps the best line. It went something like this and I do paraphrase:

“Mitt Romney keeps asking us if we are better off today that we were 4 years ago. He better not answer that question himself since he’s only given us 2 years of his tax returns.”

And the beat goes on.

Bill Clinton said it best:

“They’re argument is this: we broke it, you haven’t fixed it fast enough, hire us again.”

Let’s face it, Romney is more “European” in his outlook than Obama as he so tries to paint. Romney’s economic policies have already been tried. First they were the essential policies of the Bush fiasco. And second, look to Ireland, Britain, Spain and so forth if you want to see how well drastic spending cuts work to restore an economy.

As more and more economists point out, the debt crisis is a problem, but not THE problem. You put people to work building infrastructure, manning our schools and fighting fires and policing the streets. When the work force is engaged and gaining wealth, the economy picks up, surpluses can then be used to pay down the debt. A debt I might remind you, we owe ourselves. China owns but 4% of our overall debt much as the GOP would lie to you to the opposite.

I guess I wonder why the GOP thought this crap “We built this” would work. Have they not added up the numbers? the entrepreneurs of the world constitute only a tiny fraction of the total population.

Most of us are, were, or will be workers–working for somebody. And we know to our core, that no “job creator” creates anything but an idea with the worker who actually builds.

Eric Cantor had the audacity to tweet something to the effect of “congrats to all those who risked money and built a business–this is your day!” Yeah, it’s not labor day Eric, it’s bosses day. Are you people proof that a human can function completely devoid of a brain?

If you have ever met a pathological liar, well, I need not say more.

It’s mind-blowing to know someone who lies because it’s simple part of their DNA–about things that aren’t even important.

Like running a marathon. Why would you lie about that?

See you don’t even do it intentionally really. It’s just something that comes out of the old pie hole when you open it. Such people should be kept in locked rooms with simple repetitive tasks to perform.

They should never be considered for political jobs. But sadly, such types fit in so well in our present political climate.

See, Willard said all the right things about stupid puddle, Akins and his thoughts about rape and pregnancy.

But then Willard went to Iowa and publicly embraced Steve King (R-IA) who has given Akins a pass (I have no reason to know if he’s right or wrong, personally), and who calls immigrants dogs, and who thinks dog fighting is an okay thing, and who isn’t sure the President is an American, and  who is just an all-around IDIOT on any subject you can dream up.

And then you know.

Willard really doesn’t care anything about Akins and his kind. His handlers told him to say it, so he did. And he certainly didn’t mean it, because he doesn’t mean anything other than “let ME be president.”

So the choice will soon be ours.

Ninety-nine percent of us have made up our minds.

One percent of the rest are dead in their beds and just haven’t been found yet.

The rest are dead in their souls and haven’t heard a single thing since they spend all their free time watching professional wrestling.

It’s pretty scary knowing that.

So getting out the vote is the key now.

Do what you can will you?

It could be kind of important ya know.
